The Tomboy Princess

Hello hello hello! Fancy meeting you here!! Okay okay, unless you know me on a personal level, we obviously haven’t met but hopefully you’ll stick around and not only get to know me, but discover a more vibrant and purposeful you!

I guess this is the part where I introduce myself. My name is Sonnett “like Shakespeare” is what I tell people. Only my name is spelled with, count em, two ‘T’s for added uniqueness. Before you sit and ponder, let me set the record straight. My parents were not into literature nor were they lyrical in speech. Nope! Quite the opposite. My mother was not all that much into education nor reading for fun but she WAS heavily into AVON. Yes you read that correctly. My mother loved her AVON collection. From that collection, I was named Sonnett, after a cologne in the shape of Betsy Ross. My mother decided to add the extra ‘T’ so it would stand out. It stood out alright…out of key chains, magnets, nameplates, coffee mugs, pencils, EVERYTHING! As a child, I hated my name. I couldn’t find it on anything at Disneyland and nobody knew how to pronounce it. Still to this day, it’s not listed on anything and the baristas at Starbucks still have a rough time with it, but now, I LOVE IT! It’s uniquely beautiful and it suits me.

Anywho, more about myself. I’m currently a medical billing specialist, trained medical assistant, currently enrolled in school and plan to add Life Coaching to my skill set. I’m half black and half white but I identify as a human💕 I was born and raised in Arizona, the Valley of the Sun, where our cacti are too big to be potted and our mesquite trees look like trees straight from a Doctor Suess book.

I am a divorced mom to three awesomely handsome boys. I love my boys, as every mom should, but I do not always like them.😉 Jacob(20) is my oldest, Isaiah(19) is my middle son, and Elijah(13) is my youngest. Although I do a lot for myself, I always doing everything with them in mind. We don’t get to enjoy our little Ohana too often anymore with everyone’s different schedules, but we try to make time as much as possible.

As you can see by my children’s names, I am definitely, undeniably, unashamedly a GOD girl!! I honestly don’t know where I’d be without a strong spiritual belief and divine guidance in my life. Born into a family where my race was an issue, the neglect was unintentionally plentiful, and the poverty was real, I could’ve ended up bitter, ashamed, and walking down a permanent path of destruction but instead I’m here sharing the light.

I don’t walk around with rose colored glasses. Mine are more like those joke-style glasses with the springy eyeballs that pop out, but mine come custom fitted with reflective fun-house lenses so I’m able to see the world, as well as myself, as an ever changing, fluid progression.

What’s in the name?

The Tomboy Princess is a term I thought of over 20 years ago as I headed into my 20s. I’ve seen others use the term on social media but since I identify with it so much, I decided to create this site with the hope in mind that I can share it’s meaning and potentially influence others to tap into their entire self. For me, tomboy princess is exactly how it sounds. The best of both worlds. No no no no no! This is not a reference to my sexual preference. I’m as straight as an arrow but as single as a one dollar bill. What I mean by the best of both worlds is that I am tapped into both my masculine strengths and capabilities just as much as I’m tapped into my feminine strengths and capabilities. In other words, I’m completely capable of replacing my broken garbage disposal, changing a tire, replacing a dryer belt, and tossing a football around with my son, but I’m equally capable of donning some makeup and looking fabulous while letting that male counterpart take the lead.

My hope with this blog is to help people, not just women, feel whole again. We tend to hold ourselves captive to the labels society has placed on us, in our positions, that we lose sight of the all inclusive individual we are. I’d like to inspire folks to find the YOU in Be-YOU-tiful 😍😍😍😍😍Find what makes you happy. Do the things that you’ve always dreamed of but were to scared to try. Take that next step

lf you’re already living your best life, oh my gosh, I’m not only happy for you, but I’m crazy proud of you too. Keep doing you!! Maybe you won’t feel inspired by me and my words of wisdom, but I’m sure you’ll get a kick out of what I say from time to time. Oh and you might benefit from some of the useful resources I’ll post on this blog including travel tips, cheap and easy recipes, beauty finds, discount codes, gift ideas and so much more.

Until we virtually meet again, go out and do one really cool thing you’ve never done before. Buy a stranger a coffee. Compliment someone of their hair. Deliberately hold the door for someone. Smile more. Take a picture of yourself. Take a picture of the sunrise or the sunset. Go out and do something cool but always “be who you is”!! ✌✌✌
